| An enthusiastic player who quickly emerged as a team leader for the Bears last year ... one of the most vocal members of the squad, offering encouragement both from the bench and on the court ... a native Californian who began his collegiate career at Duke before transferring to Cal midway through the 2006-07 campaign ... adds strength and versatility along Cal's front line ... has a 7-1 wingspan ... not only plays well near the basket, where he is a strong finisher, but has long-distance range having made 7-of-15 three-pointers last year ... an active performer all over the court ... received a medical hardship waiver in the spring of 2007 due to a severe case of mononucleosis that limited his ability to practice with the Bears in '06-07 once he joined the program.
As a Sophomore (2007-08): Boykin made a dramatic impact on Cal's lineup from nearly the moment he became eligible to play vs. Utah Dec. 22 ... after scoring two points in six minutes vs. the Utes, came through with 18 points and 10 boards in 19 minutes in his next game against Long Beach State, making 8-of-11 shots from the floor, including both of his three-point attempts ... played well at home vs. the Arizona schools, combining for 17 points and 10 rebounds in the two contests ... had 14 points and eight rebounds against Stanford and earned his first of 11 starts in his next outing at Washington State Jan. 31 ... helped Cal to a 69-64 upset of the then-No. 9 Cougars with 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a potential game-deciding block on a Daven Harmerling three-point try with 27 seconds left ... had a pair of strong performances in a home series Feb. 7-9 with 13 points, eight boards and four assists in a win over Oregon State and 10 points and five rebounds against Oregon ... tied his career high with 18 points in the regular-season finale at UCLA ... came off the bench in Cal's two NIT games, chipping in 10 points and five rebounds vs. New Mexico and seven points at Ohio State ... hit two free throws with 3.7 seconds left in a tie game to lift Cal to the 68-66 win over New Mexico ... received the team's Hustle Award at the end of the year.
At Duke: As a freshman in 2005-06, saw action in 26 games and averaged 1.0 ppg and 0.8 rpg ... made an appearance against LSU in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament ... played eight minutes against Seton Hall in the NIT Season Tip-Off for his collegiate debut, scoring four points and grabbing a pair of offensive rebounds ... had six points and six rebounds vs. Valparaiso ... also finished with four points in a season-best 17 minutes vs. UNC Greensboro ... played in three games as a sophomore in 2006-07 before being diagnosed with mono ... had four points and five boards vs. Columbia in the season opener and snared five rebounds against UNC Greensboro.
High School: Boykin was named the Gatorade state Player of the Year after averaging 22 ppg, 12 rpg, 4 bpg and 5 apg as a senior at Fairfax HS in 2005 ... selected a third-team Parade All-American his senior year ... the John Wooden Award winner as the senior Player of the Year in Los Angeles ... a three-time all-city selection ... named the Junior Player of the Year by Cal-Hi Sports ... shot 76.6 percent from the floor and averaged 19.5 ppg and 11.4 rpg while leading Faixfax to the state title in 2004 ... named the state's Sophomore of the Year after contributing 16 ppg and 10 rpg ... rated the No. 24 small forward in the country by R |
