BERKELEY -- Defensive Coordinator Bob Gregory departs Cal coaching staff. He will become a defensive assistant at Boise State...

Bob Gregory will depart Cal to join the Boise State coaching staff as a defensive assistant, head coach Jeff Tedford announced Wednesday. Gregory spent eight seasons as Cal’s defensive coordinator and was one of the original hires made by Tedford upon his arrival at Cal in 2002.

“I appreciate Bob’s dedication and loyalty to the Cal football program over the last eight seasons,” said Tedford. “This was coach Gregory’s decision all the way to make what he feels is the best move for his family. I admire Bob both as a professional and a friend, and respect his value of family. I support his decision to do what’s best for his family and wish them all the best as they move forward.”

“I am grateful to coach Tedford for the tremendous experience I had at Cal,” said Gregory. “I loved working with him and will really miss all the coaches and players, but this decision is a great move for my family.”

A national search for a replacement will begin immediately.
