Cal Makes Barr's Final Five

Anthony Barr (6-4, 225), a five-star running back by Scout.com, has had the number five become a popular one for him.

Barr recently trimmed his list down to five schools, three from the Pac-10 and two from the Midwest.

"I've pretty much narrowed my schools down to Notre Dame, Michigan, California, USC and UCLA," said Barr. "Those are the schools that I think are the best fits for me and where I think I could make an impact early on."

Barr said the next step in his process would be to set up his official visits, which he's not done yet.

"I haven't set any of my official visits up but I know I'll take all five of them," said Barr. "I'll probably take some during the season and maybe some after the season. I'm not sure when they'll all work out."

With family ties to Notre Dame, the Irish have long been one of the leaders for Barr, but he insists that he's completely wide open.

"No, I don't have a favorite," said Barr. "These five schools are my top schools and they are all pretty even at this point. Everyone thinks because of my family and Notre Dame that's where I'm going but I'm going to the place that's the best fit for me and where I feel the most comfortable, so I'm looking at all the schools evenly."

Barr's size and strength have long made him a candidate to move to the defensive side of the ball down the line. "Right now, I prefer running back, but honestly, wherever a coach decides to put me, I'm open to it," said Barr. "I just want to help my team win."

Barr and his Loyola teammates open their 2009 season on September 4th against Mira Costa.

As a 2008 junior, Barr earned First Team All-State Underclass Honors, rushing for 1,890 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Academically, he has a 3.4 GPA and took the SAT in the spring.
