Local Standout Expected to Sign with Cal

Berkeley (Calif.) linebacker Lucas King will get to stay home and play his college ball. As reported in the Contra Costa Times, King rescinded on his verbal commitment to Idaho State after receiving an offer from the California Golden Bears…

The Contra Costa Times reported on Tuesday that Lucas King (6-3, 200) received an offer from California. He is expected to sign his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday becoming the is the 19th known verbal commit of the 2009 California Golden Bear recruiting class, which could reach 20.

Speculation is that King will likely grayshirt and not enroll as a full-time student until the spring semester of 2010. If so, his scholarship will not count towards 2009 leaving the door open for the possibility of Cal to lure back Ryan Davis, who decommitted last weekend to verbally commit Washington, or add another surprise commit.

King was an East Bay standout in 2008. He moved from safety to linebacker his senior year. His 6-foot-3 frame can easily hold another 20 pounds to make transition to a college outside linebacker.
