Mulling is Over Hasiak Goes Cal

Stan Hasiak

Cal added a big piece to its offensive line recruiting class for 2009. Kapolei (HI) offensive guard Stan Hasiak is the No. 9 offensive guard in the nation, according to Scout.com. And the four-star standout has rescinded on his soft verbal to UCLA, and in turn, has pledge to Cal. He spent most of Tuesday in the air as he returned home from his two weeks away on the mainland...

Stan Hasiak (6-6, 315) verbally committed to the California Golden Bears on Tuesday morning after mulling over his soft verbal commitment to UCLA and offers from USC and Oregon State.

Hasiak confirmed his commitment via text as he landed in Hawaii late Tuesday afternoon. He did not get the opportunity to get back to us for more information on his decision after arriving back home from his extensive stay on the mainland following the UnderArmour All-American Game.

The Kapolei (HI) offensive guard visited Cal on November 22 before Bear Offensive Line Coach Jim Michalczik accepted a similar position at Washington. Coach Michalczik was the one recruiting Hasiak, and Hasiak was considering tripping to Seattle.

"At first, it was a big shock to me," said Hasiak. "I was surprised that Coach Michalczik left. He was one of the big reasons why I was considering Cal. But I got over that, because I know whoever they chose for that spot will be a good coach and a good name."

With a new offensive line coach being named in the near future, Hasiak feels comfortable with the Bears impending hire.

Hasiak returned to Hawaii from the mainland on Tuesday afternoon, and originally was going to trips scheduled to Oregon State (1/16) and USC (1/23) this month before making his decision.

The chances he was going to be Golden Bear looked bleak a just a few weeks ago, when he stated he was still committed to UCLA.

"I'm sticking with my [UCLA] verbal, there is no doubt about that," Hasiak said during the week of the UnderArmour All-American Game. "I'm just looking at my opportunities. I'll have some coaches from other schools in for visits, but like I said, I'm sticking with my verbal."

Fortunately, for Cal, Hasiak has rescinded on his statement and has decided to become a Bear. He becomes Cal's fifth offensive line commit in the 2009 class.
