Cal Does a Texas Two Step

Every year, there are players that show up late on California's recruiting radar and this year, two of them happened to be from the Lone Star state of Texas.

The first, Klein Forest (Houston) defensive tackle Kendrick Payne committed to the Bears this month.

The second came up even more recently but is sure to make just as big an impact: 6-0/205 cornerback Josh Hill.

Hill had been considering an official visit to Oklahoma this weekend and he gave serious consideration to the Sooners and their football tradition but in the end, he went with where he felt would ultimately be the best fit.

"I'm going to stick with Cal," said Hill. "I just saw everything I was looking for in a program. They've got a great football program and great academics so I'd get the best of both worlds.

"I've been talking with Kendrick, too, and he says he loves it there and he really likes the coaching staff, too. We kind of like the same things and I feel like his being there in school now just helps give me a great idea what to expect.

"I had a great visit out there this weekend," Hill continued. "I really like the campus and the area's real cool.

"I got to meet some of the guys there and they're real cool, too."

Cal linebacker Coach Kenwick Thompson has been Hill's lead recruiter and he visited Hill and his family before Hill took the trip to Cal this last weekend.

"My family liked him very much, just like I do," said Hill.

The powerful Hill earned All-District honors at Klein Forest, with 5 interceptions, 45 tackles, 2 fumbles caused and 17 passes defensed on the year.
