Helped by not playing in most of the second overtime and not having to get saddled with a -9, Nikola Knezevic led the men's team in plus/minus with a +3 in Cal's 99-90 double overtime loss to Arizona State at Haas Pavilion on Thursday. For the women, Lauren Greif had a +20 in the Bears' 64-51 win over the Sun Devils in Tempe. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Men's: Arizona State 99, California 90 Usually during overtime games, teams abandon their usual substitution patterns and stick with one combination all the way through unless: a) they feel the need at some point to substitute offense for defense, b) get better free throw shooters in the game or c) either to replace someone due to foul trouble or reduce the chance of that player picking up a fifth. Consequently, barring something odd, whoever plays in overtime where generally all end up at the very top of this list or at the very bottom. For most of overtime, the Bears went with a lineup of Nikola Knezevic, Jamal Boykin, Jamal Christopher, Ryan Anderson, and DeVon Hardin. That grouping first appeared in Thurdsay's game with 1:41 left in the first half and the Bears up four.

Contribution Evaluation
Description: This stat measures the significance of a player's contribution to the team's effort. If a team wins by 10 points, and a player plays in half of the team's minutes, his expected contribution would be a +5. For example, when Cal defeated Grambling by 19 points. Brian Wethers played 28 minutes or 70% of the game. If we multiply 70% x +19, Wethers' expected contribution would be a +13.30. But for the game he was a +26, so his net for the game for a +12.70. In a perfect team situation, if everyone contributed equally, the difference column would consist of a row of zeros. Women's: California 64, Arizona State 51
