Two weeks ago, Cal hosted their main high school tight end target in Berkeley for their game vs. Stanford. After receiving commitments from four of the following week’s visiting recruits, the Bears are anxiously awaiting word from a couple of their Big Game visitors. | |||

6-4/245 Moanaloa (Honolulu, HA) High School tight end Savai’i Eselu was one of the Bears main targets on the weekend. With senior tight end Eric Beegun graduating and starting tight end Craig Stevens heading into his senior year, the 3 star Eselu would be an important addition to the Bears 2007 recruiting class. Eselu verbally committed to the Oregon Ducks last month, but remains open to the Bears overtures. Cal recruited Eselu all season and since the visit, the Bears have been in the forefront of Eselu’s mind. “I really like both programs a lot,” said Eselu. “I had coaches from both teams in for visits the other night. (Cal Head) Coach Tedford and (DL) Coach Delgado were here first and then Coach Zoum (TE Coach George Zoumboukos) came in an hour later. It was great to be able to compare the two programs side by in the same night and the same environment. “Coach Delgado told me to ‘sleep well, young man’ and told me I have a lot to think about and to take my time. I have a heavy head these days,” said Eselu, laughing. “Every day when I wake up, I have Cal and Oregon on my mind. “They’re both great programs, but Cal’s academics really stand out. Their academics are some of the best in the country and my family likes that a lot, too. “I felt really at home at both schools. Sometimes I wish I could be a Golden Duck,” joked Eselu. Obviously Bears don’t fly and Ducks don’t hunt so Eselu will have to choose between the two. “Hopefully I’ll have a decision in a week or two,” said Eselu.
