With the impending departure of All-American defensive back Daymeion Hughes on the horizon, the Cal Bears decided to inject a dose of experienced leadership, receiving a commitment from one of the top junior college DB’s in the country. | |||

All-American Grossmont JC free safety Terry Mixon committed to the Cal Bears this weekend on his recruiting visit. "Yeah, I committed to Cal today," said Mixon. "It's the best decision I ever made. "I hope to be able to play with my brother, Tim," said Mixon. "If that doesn't work out, I'll just have to continue the family name at Cal. But if both of us can play together, that’s like a dream come true for me. “Tim’s like my motivator. He knows my game real well. "I really hope he gets his year back. His rehab’s going great. They say when you hurt your knee, with good rehab, you often come back stronger. He’s gonna be alright. I think he’s supposed to find out in February if he’ll get his sixth year (of eligibility, based on appeal after missing his full final season with injury)." “Tim was always the shut-down corner. I like to pattern my game after him and his technique, but being bigger, I’ve always been more of a hitter." Mixon had a very productive senior year with Grossmont, with 90 solo tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 3 forced fumbles, 2 sacks, 6 balls defensed, and 2 kick off returns for over 90 yards each this season. Mixon gave up zero touchdown receptions on the year in coverage. Mixon was a two-time All-American, with an additional 90 tackle, 6 interceptions (2 returned for touchdowns) and 3 sacks in his freshman season. The 5 star Mixon is hoping to enter Cal in the Spring and be eligible for Spring camp. He expects to find out in the coming week regarding his eligibility for early entry. Mixon was previously committed to Arizona State and had been strongly considering the University of Tennessee before committing to the Bears.
