Robert Peele’s a guy with a lot of options. The 5-11, 180 lb cornerback from Fresno’s Edison High is currently weighing offers from eight schools, including current favorites California and Arizona State

Peele, a 4-star defensive back, has been on many major programs' recruiting radar since his standout junior season when he was named 2nd team all-state in the underclassman category. He has had the opportunity to go on two formal recruiting visits to date. His first visit was to Cal for their Big Game romp over Stanford on November 20. Peele was hosted by former teammate and current Cal safety Bernard Hicks. He cited his friendship with Hicks along with the relationship he’s established with defensive backs coach J.D. Williams, another Fresno native, as one his strongest attractions to Cal, who he ranks as his current leader. Peele greatly enjoyed his weekend in Berkeley and the time spent with the players including Hicks and Marshawn Lynch. "They’re a winning program with a lot of great athletes and a great coaching staff," Peele noted. "I really liked that fact that the coaches really treat the athletes with respect, too. That said a lot to me."

Peele also cited Arizona State as being another school strongly in the running for his services. Until recently, USC was in the mix as well, but they didn’t sense the level of enthusiasm they were looking for in Robert with him continuing to list Cal and ASU as his favorites and thought it best that he not take his formal visit scheduled on January 14. When asked if he thought they were "playing hardball" with him, he chuckled. "They’ve got some good db commitments coming in, so they’ll be fine." Peele plans to fill the 1/14 visit slot with a trip to Tucson to visit Arizona.

His Edison team ended their season 8-4 with a loss to Clovis West in the CCS playoffs. It was a tough loss for Buchanan who had earlier upset Clovis West after their big defeat of longtime power De La Salle early in the season. Peele ended the season with two interceptions returned for touchdowns along with two fumble recoveries and 104 tackles.

Peele has a GPA of 2.80 along with an SAT score of 910 and expects to be fully qualified. He hopes to make his final decision quickly after his last recruiting visit on 1/14.
