Guy Talks Cal Offer
“I think it’s helped a lot,” Guy said. “The team I played with, Indiana Elite, I think it was a great decision for me to play with them. We’re friends off the court and on the court, so I give all my accomplishments, it’s because of them.”

Following his performance, Guy added offers from Virginia, NC State, Iowa State and Northwestern. Cuonzo Martin and Yanni Hufnagel, though, have been sold for quite some time.
“He talked about how he’s been watching me since he was at Tennessee, and coach Hufnagel has been watching me since he was at Vanderbilt,” Guy said. “Cuonzo actually called me last night, but I was on my flight back home from L.A. He called me back today after school, and offered me. I was really shocked, but happy, and blessed.”

The phone call was fairly straight-forward, Guy said, as Martin isn’t given to florid language or mincing words.
“He asked how I was doing, I said, ‘Good, how are you doing?’ and he said, ‘I’m doing great. We want to offer you a scholarship,’” Guy said. “It was pretty much right off the bat, when he told me. They said they love the way I play, and that I have a chip on my shoulder, and they like that. They said I’d fit in great at California, and they said that, if they’re going to win championships, they need players like me to get there.”
The Bears got started on their 2016 class on Monday, with the commitment of four-star wing Oscar Frayer, a piece of news that was not lost on Guy.

“I did see that, and we talked about that, as well,” Guy said. “It says what type of program they are. It’s a high-major basketball program, so they’re going to get the best guys, and seeing that they got a top-50 wing, it makes that better for them, recruiting me and other players. It’s a big step for them as a program.”
After a busy summer, Guy is taking the next month to rest and recuperate, before he sits down with his parents to decide where he wants to visit.
