has received a commitment from Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral forward Idrissa Diallo
Diallo, on his official visit to Berkeley on Oct. 19, repeatedly referred to the Bears as "we," and, at least in his mind, was already committed.
"When I come, we'll be something really dangerous, maybe even Sweet 16," Diallo told BearTerritory.
Diallo – at 6-foot-10, 220 pounds -- hails from Senegal, and his parents – who hadn't seen him for over two years – accompanied him on his official visit, along with his father's brother, who came all the way from Austria.
Diallo's commitment comes the day after Cal offered his Brazilian teammate -- Lucas Siewert
-- and on the same day that UCLA
landed coveted Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola big man Thomas Welsh
, who also had the Bears among his final schools.
Diallo has already faxed his Letter of Intent in to Haas Pavilion, on the final day that high school seniors can sign during the early signing period, which began on Nov. 13.
Will Middlebrooks -- Diallo's coach -- and Diallo released a joint statement shortly after he sent in his letter of intent.
"His commitment and interest in coming to Cal is to play specifically for Coach Mike Montgomery," the statement said. "The Diallo family, with the guidance of Coach Middlebrooks, strongly believe that Montgomery's proven track record and wisdom are key elements necessary to the continued development of Idrissa Diallo on the court as well as in life. Also, the prominence of Cal and its status as one of the premier academic institutions in the nation only adds to the attraction. Diallo is excited to join the Cal family and looks forward to meeting the many fans of Golden Bear basketball and hopes to contribute to a successful run while at Cal."
