TOP 100: Bird and Cobbs Make the Cut

Jabari Bird and Justin Cobbs are tabbed as two of the top 100 players in college basketball, as the Bears check in as one of three conference teams with a pair of ballers on the preseason list.

With the annual Pac-12 Men's Basketball Media Day on the horizon for Thursday, CBS's Gary Parrish named his top 100 college basketball players for the 2013-14 season on Tuesday, and two California players made the list.

True freshman Jabari Bird and redshirt senior point guard Justin Cobbs checked in at Nos. 93 and 74, respectively.

Bird -- a five-star prospect out of Richmond (Calif.) Salesian and the No. 6 small forward in the 2013 class -- was a McDonald's All-American last spring, the first future Bear to be accorded that honor since Leon Powe in 2003.

Cobbs returns to action after suffering a foot injury in August, but has a sparkling resume after his first two seasons in Berkeley. Last season, Cobbs played in all 33 possible games, shooting 44.8% from the field (second only to NBA-bound Allen Crabbe), dishing out 158 assists.

After his first season in Berkeley, Cobbs was tabbed a Pac-12 honorable mention selection after leading Cal in assists (his 169 helpers were third in the Pac-12 and ranked ninth on the program's all-time single-season list) and ranking 18th in the league in scoring.

Arizona scored two spots on the CBS list in freshman Aaron Gordon (10) and Nick Johnson (59). UCLA's Kyle Anderson (27) and Jordan Adams (37) also made the list.

The Pac-12 also cracked the top 10 with Arizona State's Jahii Carson, with Spencer Dinwiddie of Colorado (21), Stanford's Dwight Powell (67), Oregon's Mike Moser (78) and Washington's C.J. Wilcox (92) also making the list.

The rankings are not based on NBA potential, and breakdown into 40 seniors, 23 juniors, 21 sophomores and 16 freshmen, with five of those freshmen raking in the top 12, topped by Andrew Wiggins of Kansas, who took home the No. 1 spot. Recommended Stories
