First offer in for Humphreys

ATH Ben Humphreys

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei junior Ben Humphreys is one of the region's top players and landed his first scholarship offer on Thursday.

Ben Humphreys does it all for Mater Dei starting at linebacker and receiver. At 6-3, 210 pounds, Humphreys has a great frame, is a good athlete and is an impact player on both sides of the ball. He shows great hands at receiver and is a big hitter and very aggressive at linebacker and has a very nice upside to him.

On the recruiting front, Humphreys picked up his first of what should be multiple BCS offers on Wednesday from California.

"It feels great to get that first offer," Humphreys said. "I talked to Andy Buh, the linebacker coach and defensive coordinator last night and he told me they like me at outside linebacker and wanted to offer me a scholarship.

"I went to the Cal-Northwestern game earlier in the season and really liked it there. I had a great experience and the atmosphere was nuts. I loved the school and even though I didn't get to spend much time with the coaches, I really like those guys a lot and have a good relationship with them. This is definitely a big offer for me and hopefully a few others will come around as well."

Both of Humphreys' parents attended Stanford and his older sister is a freshman volleyball player for the Cardinal. He camped with Stanford over the summer along with USC, UCLA and Oregon State and is also hearing a little from Michigan.
