Enwere Packing His Bags

Three-star running back Vic Enwere has some concrete summer plans now that the Golden Bears have extended a scholarship offer.

After landing its second commit of the 2014 cycle -- and the first of likely two running backs – the California football program extended an offer to another tailback on Friday in the person of Vic Enwere.

"He facebooked me and told me I had good news," Enwere said of his primary recruiter, Pierre Ingram. "Then, I called them, and they offered."

Enwere has been waiting for the Bears offer for just about two weeks now, and while he said he was excited about the offer, he's an old hand at this recruiting business already, with 12 other scholarships already under his belt.

"It was a good moment for me, because I've been waiting on it a little bit," Enwere said. "I like the program, I like the coaches a lot."

Last time Enwere spoke with Cal Sports Digest -- right after Cal visited the three-star back at his Sugar Land (Tex.) Stephen F. Austin high school campus to take a peek, Enwere knew about the coaching staff's previous work at Louisiana Tech. Now that he's had some time to do a little research, he's been liking what he sees from the staff's new digs.

"They go about their business fair, as a staff," Enwere said. "They don't just have coaches going out and offering. They're offering as a team. They want me to play early, which is definitely what I like to hear. They want me to play my freshman year, and they let me know that if I come in and redshirt, that's a waste of time. They want me to play as soon as I come in and get into the rotation. It's exciting."

With shifty, speedy Tre Watson already in the boat, 6-foot-1, 213-pound Enwere is a different type of running back -- one that can plow through blocks and power through tackles.

"Coah [Ingram] has had a really good set of backs in the past, and they already picked up a commit -- Tre -- and they want us to be a one-two punch," Enwere said. "He's a smaller, shiftier guy, plays a little bit of slot, and I'm more of a bigger, every-down back. They want it to really be a dynamic offense. They want to be able to do a lot of things."

Now that he has his offer firmly in hand, Enwere is set to visit Berkeley very soon.

"I'm going to come out and visit in June," Enwere said of his first trip out to the Golden State. "There's a lot that California has to offer. I really want to see it all and get out there and experience the school for all it's got."

The trip will also be Enwere's first recruiting visit of the summer.

"It should be big," Enwere said. "Really big,"
