Monty Speaks on Collins's Choice
On Monday morning, Collins's self-penned coming-out article for Sports Illustrated was released, making him the first ever active, male, professional team-sport athlete in the United States to publicly identify as homosexual.
Following the release of the article, at the behest of Cal Sports Digest, Montgomery issued the following statement.
"Jason is an exceptional person who put a great deal of thought into this decision," Montgomery said. "This took a lot of courage, and I support him, along with his family and former teammates who have nothing but respect for Jason. I have known him and his family for a long time, since his sophomore year in high school when we started the recruiting process. He is a tremendous player and smart, fierce competitor. Jason is a guy you want to have on your side."
