El Cerrito (Calif.) wide receiver Jalen Harvey was a fixture at California football practices this spring, paying three visits to Memorial Stadium to watch the Bears get after it and learn the new Bear Raid offense.

On Tuesday evening, the 6-foot, 175-pounder let his future position coach Rob Likens and the Cal staff know that he was ready to jump on board.

Harvey becomes the first of a vaunted Gauchos trio -- including four-star Adarius Pickett and four-star linebacker D.J. Calhoun -- to pull the trigger and commit.

Following Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame safety Koa Farmer -- who recently got offers from Harvard and Yale -- into the fold, the three-star Harvey is the first offensive player to make the call for the Bears.

Harvey is ranked as the No. 57 wide receiver in the 2014 class.

During one of his visits to Berkeley, Harvey said that seeing the new up-tempo offense in person was a big factor in Cal moving up his leaderboard.

"It shows me that they throw the ball and run it at the same time. Everybody's getting it," Harvey said. "Everybody's getting a chance to touch the ball. At the end of the day, you've just got to make something happen. If you can't do that, there's no reason for you to be on the field."

Oregon had offered Harvey, but the Ducks wanted him as a defensive back, while he prefers to play wide receiver -- the position he will play for Cal. Recommended Stories
