Four star El Cerrito (Calif.) cornerback Adarius Pickett could be on the verge of more offers. Who…
Pickett Checks Out Bears Under the Lights
The four-star corner is not only being recruited by the Cal football team, but now that he's hitting .400 with eight stolen bases for El Cerrito (Calif.), he's started to seriously consider playing two sports in college. Enter: Mike Neu and the Bears baseball program.
Cal is the only school that has had both its baseball and football staffs in contact with Pickett, and given the 6-foot, 185-pounder's spate of recent visits to Berkeley, it's certainly having the desired effect, as far as the Bears are concerned.
"My coach, he's been talking to the Cal coach about me," said Pickett. "I'm batting .400 with eight stolen bases, so I'm doing pretty well."
Pickett leads the Gauchos with 13 runs scored, and, thanks to seven hit-by-pitches, he also paces the squad with a .561 on-base percentage.
"I introduced myself before the game, and I talked with [Neu] after the game," Pickett said. "It's good. I love playing baseball. I like the lights a lot. It reminds me of football season."
UCLA and Arizona State have both said that they are willing to let Pickett play both sports, but the Bears do have two aces in the hole: head coach Sonny Dykes played college baseball himself at Texas Tech, and currently, the starting right fielder for the Bears -- Jacob Wark -- is also pulling double duty.
"This is my first college baseball game that I've been to," Pickett said. "It was really good energy. The fan base here at Cal is really good, overall, in every sport, really. They fought hard at the end, and couldn't beat USC, but it's alright."
Pickett was a regular fixture on the sidelines during football spring practice at Memorial Stadium, and said that the Bears are "definitely in the top, along with some other schools.
"Cal is definitely up there," Pickett said. "I like Cal, and that's why I keep coming. I like it up here."
