Jones Talks Cal Offer
"It was pretty nice," Jones said. "That was my first time talking to him, so we were getting to know each other a little bit, and he was telling me what they have to offer there at Cal, and things like that."
Jones has no shortage of offers already, from Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin, among others.
"They're a great school, academically," Jones said of Cal. "They have a good program there, and I know they have a new coaching staff, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they're going to do there."
Having already paid unofficial visits to the Wildcats, the Boilermakers and the Buckeyes, Jones is keen on attending a school that is as strong academically as it is athletically.
"It's great, because there's always life after football," Jones said. "Every one of those schools can prepare you for real life, when you have to go and get a job. You want to be prepared for that, and you want to go to a school that's going to train you so you know what you're doing, whatever you choose to major in."
After visiting most of his Midwestern suitors, Jones and his family are considering a West Coast swing to visit the Bears, Bruins and Stanford, which has yet to offer the four-star offensive tackle.
"I've been talking to my mom about it," Jones said. "I'm not quite sure yet. If I did at all, it would definitely be in the summer time. I'm trying to figure that out now. I would definitely like to go out there and see what both of those schools have to offer."
Before he got the call from Yenser, Jones was aware of Cal, but only obliquely.
"I've watched them a couple times over the past year," Jones said. "I know that Jahvid Best used to play for them, and DeSean Jackson, too. I had no idea that I was going to get offered, so I was pretty shocked. I'd gotten some mail from them in the past, but this was the first time I'd actually talked with a coach. They're going to be heading in a positive direction, they're a great school academically and they have a lot of things to offer."
