Arizona was not able to defeat Cal on Sunday. Read on for a complete recap of why the Wildcats lost.

Arizona had absolutely no answer for Allen Crabbe on Sunday and in the end, it cost the Wildcats a win, as he scored 31 to help the Golden Bears win 77-69 at McKale.

Allen Crabbe got on the board for Cal to open up the game, but Solomon Hill had a quick answer. Richard Solomon and David Kravish scored consecutive buckets before Kaleb Tarczewski came up with a three-point play. Kravish and Grant Jerrett then exchanged baskets to keep Cal’s lead at 8-7 with 15:32 left in the first half.

Mark Lyons hit a three-pointer out of a timeout and Crabbe hit a jumper before Nick Johnson added another three for Arizona. Tyrone Wallace hit one of his own for the Golden Bears, but Jordin Mayes made two free-throws shortly after. A jumper by Bak Bak then tied the game at 15 with 11:25 left in the half.

Solomon Hill made a free-throw less than a minute later and Ashley was fouled on an offensive board, as he made two free-throws. Hill then proceeded to hit a three that forced Mike Montgomery to call timeout for Cal, down 21-15 with 8:47 left. Crabbe and Ashley proceeded to exchange baskets before the media timeout at the 7:37 mark.

Johnson and Tarczewski got to the line and both made one of two free-throws before Crabbe came up with a bucket. Kevin Parrom responded with a three-pointer, but Crabbe and Solomon got consecutive baskets. Two free-throws by Hill then gave the Wildcats a 30-23 lead with a little over four minutes left. Justin Cobbs then proceeded to score his first basket of the game to bring the Golden Bears to within five with 3:53 left.

Wallace scored for Cal before Hill and Lyons hit consecutive threes. However, Solomon made two free-throws and Cobbs made a layup off a turnover to force Arizona to take a timeout leading 36-31 with about a minute left. Tarczewski was able to score out of the timeout, but a turnover led to a Crabbe basket before the half, as Arizona went into halftime up 38-33.

The second half began with a Crabbe basket that was matched by one from Ashley. Cobbs then scored and soon after hit two free-throws to bring the Golden Bears to within 40-39 with 17:49 left in the second half.

After a timeout, Crabbe hit a three and was followed by another basket from Cobbs. Crabbe then got to the line and made both free-throws to extend the Cal lead to 46-40. Crabbe was then fouled by Johnson on a made three and the foul shot gave Cal a ten-point lead with 15:35 left in the second half. Jerrett was able to try to slow down the run with a three-pointer from the corner and an Ashley layup put Arizona back within five.

A Cobbs basket extended the lead to seven before Parrom scored off an offensive rebound and Johnson made a layup off a turnover to force the Golden Bears to call timeout up 52-49 with 12 minutes left. A score off a rebound by Kravish gave Cal the five-point lead before Johnson made one of two free-throws.

Arizona forced Cal deep into the shot clock, but Crabbe was able to back a three right as it expired to put Cal up seven. Lyons responded with a three of his own, but Cobbs hit a jumper off an inbounds play to keep it up 59-53. Hill and Kravish then exchanged baskets as a free-throw by Angelo Chol brought Arizona within five with about seven minutes left. Lyons got to the line seconds later and also made one of two before a three by Crabbe put Cal up 64-57. Parrom scored the next time down court and Hill found Lyons for a layup to cut Cal’s lead to 64-61 with 4:51 left.

Bak Bak scored out of a timeout, but Ashley got it back at the free-throw line. Bak Bak then did the same exact thing to keep Cal’s lead at five with about 3:30 to go before Ashley picked up a basket to put Arizona within 68-65.

Lyons proceeded to make one of two from the line before a Cobbs three-pointer extended the lead back to five.

Lyons responded with a three of his own with two minutes left, but Crabbe was able to get to the basket and score. A layup by Cobbs with about 40 seconds left then sealed the game for the Golden Bears.
