Edwards Awaits News

Berkley Edwards is watching the coaching situations at the schools he's considering.

Berkley Edwards and his family continue to research his recruitment. They were hoping to have a college decision at this point, but circumstances change.

"One of the things we're looking at right now is will the coaching staffs be there," said Berkley's father, Stan Edwards. Berkley is a Class of 2013 running back from Michigan.

The elder Edwards said he expected that schools would make quick decisions on coach retention. He had heard that two of the three schools they were considering were talking about firing the leaders of their football programs.

"I don't know if Coach (Kirk) Ferentz is going to be fired," Stan Edwards said. "I don't know if Jeff Tedford is going to get fired. I don't know."

Iowa, Cal and Minnesota are Berkley's finalists.

Ferentz would be owed a large buyout, making it extremely difficult to cut him loose. There's this on Tedford.

Stan Edwards said he hadn't yet done his research of the rosters of Berkley's Top 3. He said his son is more than willing to compete, he just doesn't want to begin career behind a stockpile of young, capable running backs.

Hawkeye WR Coach Erik Campbell is an Edwards' family friend, according to Stan. While it would be nice for the buddies to talk more, Stan said two other Hawkeye coaches are more important in his decision.

"Berkley is not going to play slot (receiver), exclusively," Stan said. "As we talk, he's coming in as an I-Back. You look at what needs to be there for Berkley to function and that's and Coach (Lester) Erb and Coach Ferentz."
