NU a fit for new verbal Davison

Three-star linebacker Ray Davison became Northwestern's 18th addition to its 2013 recruiting class. The Crespi, Calif. product discusses his decision with PurpleWildcats.

Ray Davison knew he wanted to be a Northwestern Wildcat, but was wanting to wait until his campus visit. However, he was feeling impatient.

Following weeks of deliberation, Davison was eager to make his decision official. On Friday, he informed Northwestern he would join its 2013 recruiting class.

Davison, a three-star linebacker from Crespi, Calif., sat down with his family to evaluate each option. In the end, Northwestern stood alone.

"We all decided that Northwestern was the best place for me," said Davison of his family meeting.

The next step for Davison was to inform the Northwestern coaching staff.

"I just wanted them to know that I want to be a Wildcat," said Davison. "I couldn't wait till my visit. I just pulled it."

Davision also holds offers from Boise State, Iowa State, Colorado State, Navy, Nevada, San Diego State, and Wyoming. He was set to visit Boise and Reno, but those plans have since been canceled. His final visit will be in Evanston, though no plans have been set.

Northwestern began its recruitment of Davison during the spring, monitoring his senior season. A scholarship offer was extended in October, and Davison was sold from the start.

"It was kind of already a done deal," he said.

The difference-maker for Davison is the academic reputation Northwestern carries. The linebacker hopes to be involved with business, following his football career.

Another important selling point for Davison is how the Wildcats carry themselves.

"It's a program that's built around character; those special kind of guys that are great in the classroom and great on the field," he said. "I wanted to be one of those guys."

On Saturday, Davison intently watched Northwestern's game with Michigan, where he found himself yelling at the television with each high and low the game provided.

Davison was sold on Northwestern and couldn't wait to even see campus. He said: "I knew it was the right place for me."
