Hughes headed to Berkeley

Garrett Hughes

Corona (Calif.) Centennial defensive lineman Garrett Hughes has committed to California, the news revealed by teammate and fellow future Bear Cameron Hunt.

Corona (Calif.) Centennial defensive lineman Garrett Hughes has committed to California, becoming the second player from the Inland Empire powerhouse in the Class of 2013 to pledge to the Golden Bears.

Four-star offensive guard Cameron Hunt, who verbally committed to Cal in July, broke the news of Hughes' decision on Twitter on Wednesday night.

Hughes, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive end, could stay on the line or play linebacker at the next level. He delivered a strong performance at the Nike Football Training Camp in Los Angeles over the summer and has 21 tackles and recovered a fumble through seven games for the Huskies this season.

Cal now has 12 known commitments in its 2013 recruiting class, with Hughes becomes the second player to commit in the last week, joining Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral wide receiver Torry McTyer.

Cal Sports Digest will have more on Hughes' commitment as it develops.
