Sophomore linebacker Cecil Whiteside dismissed from program for a violation of team rules.

BERKELEY, Calif. – California has dismissed linebacker Cecil Whiteside from the football program for an undisclosed violation of team rules, head coach Jeff Tedford said in a statement Thursday.

Whiteside, a sophomore from Newport Beach (Calif.) Newport Harbor, appeared in 10 games last season, starting three. He finished with 17 tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles.

While Whiteside, a former four-star recruit, was listed as a backup at outside linebacker coming out of the spring, the Golden Bears have plenty of returning depth at that position.
